The Forbidden Fruit Experiment

14 - 19 Oct 2013

photoThe Forbidden Fruit Experiment was Luba Dalcolmo’s first solo exhibition in London. Its main highlight consisted of a series of paintings in which the artist combined concrete and abstract elements on the canvas. The apple being at the centre. Apples have multiple symbolic meanings in different cultures such as fertility and mortality. Dalcolmo’s paintings consisted of large paintings consisting of acrylic paint and canvas featuring apples in front of abstract background. Dalcolmo’s technique included realist painting as well as abstract brush strokes of a variety colours. With the apple in the foreground, Dalcolmo attempted to add a third dimension to her paintings. This was one of the final exhibitions to take place at Gallery 27, Cork Street. Cork Street is well known for its art galleries which was subsequently purchased by contractors.

Press Release

Luba Dalcolmo’s work has always leaned in the direction of abstract expressionism and can be characterised by streaks and shapes of colours in oil on canvas of various dimensions which is the result of the artist’s “subconscious”. By communicating emotions and feelings to the viewer that can noL otherwise be put into words, the artist experiences a kind of “synesthesia” exploring dreams, landscapes, seasons and countries in her paintings.
